General Motors North America Design is seeking students for internship opportunities in Visualization, Creative and Digital Sculpting, Industrial Design, Color and Trim, Advanced Designer in a Master’s Degree Program and a Process Engineer for our Fabrication Activity.  Internship assignments will be from June 3 through August 30, 2013.

General Motors North America Design is pleased to announce 10 internship opportunities for summer 2013. Internship Location: General Motors Design Center, Warren, Michigan. Number of opportunities indicated in front of Intern Assignment:

(1) Visualization:                                                                         Requisition #CRE0000190
Intern should have a creative portfolio of 2D and 3D CGI based projects. Demonstrable experience in any Animation and Post software is fine; however skills in Photoshop, Maya, and Nuke are preferred. The GM Design Creative Digital Imaging is a multidisciplinary team supporting the design studios from concept ideation to product launch with high end renderings, animations, video and traditional photography. Creative Digital Imaging (the Design department for this placement) also Art Directs vehicles in Marketing activities. The successful applicant will have exposure to vehicles in development, and the opportunity to develop photorealistic imagery as part of this elite and creative team.

Intern will create three-dimensional clay and digital exterior or interior models utilizing engineering criteria and design sketches.  Work duties involve a considerable amount of creativity, skill, accuracy and coordination.  Key skills include:  basic AliasStudio proficiency, demonstrated aesthetic understanding of line and form, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
(2) Digital Sculpting:                                                                        Requisition #CRE0000198
Intern will create three-dimensional clay and digital exterior or interior models utilizing engineering criteria and design sketches.  Work duties involve a considerable amount of creativity, skill, accuracy and coordination.  Key skills include:  basic AliasStudio proficiency, demonstrated aesthetic understanding of line and form, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.

(1) Industrial/Graphic Designer:                                                        Requisition #CRE0000193
Intern will develop original, innovative, fresh designs for visual expressions of automotive products including graphics, exhibits and merchandise design.  Intern will utilize their excellent visualization communication skills to make appropriate 2D & 3D graphic design proposals based on brands, competition and trends. Intern will work with other design personnel, following design process from sketch form to the final release of proposals.

(1) Color & Trim Designer:                                                                Requisition #CRE0000197
Intern will develop innovative interior colors, materials and finishes for a wide-range of vehicle programs. Intern will develop and integrate customer focused need and brand differentiation into all aesthetic proposals.  This will include extensive benchmarking of industry trends in fashion, home/contract furnishing and product design.

(1) Creative Designer – GM Urban Mobility Project (Master’s Candidate Only):         Requisition #CRE0000195
Intern will work to craft new mobility products and services for global cities of the future. The selected candidate will utilize strategic thinking and creative design abilities as they assist our Advanced Design Team in the creation of future mobility products beyond traditional cars and trucks. New forms of mobility will be explored to address concerns of pollution, congestion and land use in the growing Megacities.

(1) Process Engineer/Project Manager:                                                        Requisition #CRE0000192
Intern will be responsible for interfaces with vehicle programs including:  Clinic properties, foam models, interior seating properties, aero properties, modeling armatures, scale models, and various multi-shop mock-ups.  Intern will be engaged in activities that serve as liaison between the Design Center studios, Engineering, Marketing and the Design Fabrication shops in the following capacities: Program readiness; organizing and planning major prototype build projects with the Design Center Fabrication shops and Program Management.  Intern will learn how to procure all non-stock parts / materials necessary for the building of a property while coordinating the shipping and receiving of all properties and parts to and from outside sources. In addition, intern will process all build information and monitor progress and quality of all projects working at the GM Design Center Shop. (No portfolio required for this position).

Candidates currently working on undergraduate or graduate degrees in the following majors may apply:   Industrial Design, Automotive Design, Transportation Design, Product Design, Color and Trim Design; Graphic Design, User Experience Design, Ceramics, Fine Arts, User Interface Design, Computer Animation, Digital Filmmaking, Multimedia Design, Game Design, Visual Effects and related fields. In addition, Engineering students may apply for the Process Engineer/Project Mgt. position.

Candidates must possess a 3.0 G.P.A. and be available to work from June 3through August 30, 2013 at our General Motors Design Studios at our Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.
