Associate Professor of Interior Design
Patricia Young, Ph.D. is Associate Professor and Coordinator for the Interior Design discipline in the Department of Art. She has held the position of Interior Designer with various architecture and engineering firms in Michigan, and has served as Assistant Director of Arts and Sciences with the University of Virginia.
Dr. Young is a licensed, professional interior designer and Allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. She is a diversified designer whose work has been exhibited nationally in numerous private residences, model homes, corporate office interiors, restaurants, motion picture set design, and health care facilities. She has collaborated with colleague Mark Watkins, on the the design of the interior for the First Baptist Church in North Brentwood, Maryland. Dr. Young’s research interest includes the design of healthy interiors and environmental concerns for children and the elderly. Dr. Young, colleagues, and students in the Interior Design program are actively involved in providing volunteer design assistance to the community. Her most recent project involves the redesign of a health care facility for children with special needs in Washington, DC.
